French foreign minister refers to the
Bourbon deal in Doha
Published: Thursday, 22 June, 2006, Gulf Times
French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy
said during his visit in Qatar on June 19 that French Firms were
keen to do business in Qatar, which plans investments of up to
$130bn over eight years.
“A close association with
local companies is often the key to success,” he said, citing
the case of French firm Bourbon, which provides maritime services
for offshore fields and recently set up in Qatar in Partnership
with a Qatari enterprise. This local company is ENSRV GROUP, a
member of J&A Jaidah Holdings. Through its fully owned subsidiaries
Medgulf Construction, Trags Engineering and Trags Services), ENSRV
GROUP has over 30 years experience in construction, civil, mechanical
and electrical design. The group has also established joint venture
partnerships with multinationals including Multiplex ( the leading
Australian construction company) and United Technology (a global
technology corporation) through Carrier. Bourbon places high value
on partnerships and local responsibility in operations management
and that effective action means delegating the powers needed at
the local level for a project to be successfully completed, Bourbon
Chairman Jacques de Chateauvieux said. “This is particularly true
in the case of successful partnerships based on mutual enrichment
resulting from shared ownership of resources, know-how and key
positions. That is why, as far as Bourbon is concerned, being
a partner means acting jointly as one,” he said.
